Why families choose Kindred Odstock

At Kindred Odstock Nursery and Pre-School, we embrace the Curiosity Approach, using open-ended resources and natural materials to create an environment where every child leads their own learning journey. Our unique loose parts room is a space where big imaginations can thrive, we even have an interactive woodworking area that promote problem-solving and creative thinking.

We have an impressive outdoor space with a woodland area where we host our Forest School. Here, our children learn valuable life skills - from building dens to safely making fires - all under close supervision from our fully qualified practitioners. These experiences help nurture independence, resilience, and a connection with nature.

We’re passionate about giving every child the skills and confidence they need to feel ready for school. We’re proud to be known in our local community for our approach to school readiness and the support we offer parents and carers too, with our comprehensive transition booklet and workshop.

DAY IN THE LIFE

Day in the Life

Drop Off

Our doors open from 07:30, where you and your little one will be greeted by a member of our friendly team who will strive to ensure that the transition from home to nursery is a smooth and happy one. Wave ‘see you soon!’ to your child in the knowledge that they will be safe, well cared for and having endless amounts of fun as they settle in for the day ahead.

Breakfast

Our children start their day off correctly with a healthy range of options to choose from, such as cereals, fruit and toast for breakfast. For weaning babies at all mealtimes, a specially curated weaning menu is prepared by our trained chef and can be mashed, chopped or pureed depending on your child's individual needs.

Morning

Fuelled with a yummy breakfast, children enjoy a range of enrichment activities, adult-led learning linked to focus topics and child-led play experiences. From loose parts exploration and sensory activities to creative arts, imaginative role play and cosy reading corners, there is truly something for every child to enjoy. Outdoor play also forms an important part of the morning, allowing children to build confidence, develop physical skills and explore through active play. A healthy snack is available in the mid-morning to keep everyone energised.

Lunch

From 12:00, we enjoy lunch, freshly prepared by our on-site chef. Mealtimes provide a wonderful opportunity to socialise with friends, develop independence and explore a variety of flavours and textures. Our seasonal menus offer plenty of choice and are carefully adapted to accommodate individual dietary requirements and preferences.

Nap Time

Following lunch, our younger children can enjoy a well-earned nap or quiet time. For our little sleepers, we create a calm and comforting atmosphere using soft lighting, soothing music and cosy bedding to support rest and relaxation. Children who are not sleeping can enjoy quiet indoor activities, stories and gentle play, helping to create a peaceful transition into the afternoon.

Afternoon

Children continue their learning journey through a balance of indoor and outdoor experiences that encourage curiosity, creativity and independence. Whether exploring open-ended resources, engaging in imaginative play or enjoying active time outdoors, every afternoon offers opportunities for discovery and development.

Snack

To keep little ones fuelled and ready for all the awe and wonder their days hold, we offer a healthy mid-afternoon snack, including fresh fruit and vegetables alongside other nutritious options. From 16:00, our children enjoy a delicious evening meal before settling into a relaxed period of child-led play, giving them time to unwind and enjoy activities of their own choosing.

Home

As the day draws to a close, children enjoy relaxed play with their friends before being collected throughout the evening. Families are kept up to date through Satchel during the day, and at collection time your child's key person will share highlights of their learning, achievements and wellbeing, along with any important information. Nursery closes at 18:00, when we wave our final goodbyes and wish everyone a safe journey home.

This is just an example day that the nursery follows, each day is subject to variation depending on activities and the needs of the children.

FAQs

FAQs

What are the designated parking and access arrangements for drop-off and pick-up at your nursery?

We have a private car park located directly at the front of the nursery to make drop-off and pick-up easy and quick for our families.

What is the unique feel of ethos of your nursery team?

Our nursery's ethos is built on a foundation of unique learning opportunities, and we are passionate about empowering our children with real-world skills. We provide an interactive learning environment giving our children real tools, such as those used in woodwork, to foster a sense of responsibility and skill development. We believe in the power of loose parts play and its ability to encourage creativity, critical thinking, problem solving skills.

How does your nursery prepare my child for the transition to school?

To ensure a smooth and confident transition to primary school, we host a dedicated "Transition to School" workshop for parents. Once your child's school placement has been secured, we invite you to attend this session. The workshop provides valuable insights, covering the essential dos and don'ts of starting school, and offers a practical guide to help both you and your child prepare for this exciting next step.

How do the settling in sessions at your nursery work?

Our settling in process is completely tailored to each individual child, with no fixed number of sessions. We believe that a flexible approach is key to ensuring a confident transition and that every child gets the support they need to feel secure in their new environment. We'll continue the sessions for as long as needed until your child is fully settled.

Reviews for Kindred Odstock

Hear what our families think on daynurseries.co.uk, the UK's most trusted nursery directory with ratings based on reviews from verified parents.

“My grandchildren absolutely love going to nursery. They have so much fun and are learning so much every day. All of the staff are kind, caring, and supportive, and their keyworkers in particular are just wonderful. I really value the app, which keeps us updated on what they are doing throughout the day. The communication and information that is shared is excellent. The nursery is always open and transparent, with a clear and well-organised approach in place, which is very reassuring for families.”

Kirsty B

“The staff are fantastic, friendly and really care about what they do. I really look forward to picking him up and hearing all about his day from them, the passion and excitement they have is brilliant. Its never easy leaving your child with someone else at the start, but they were all very comforting (to us both) and I had regular updates and pictures. I couldn't ask for more. He is doing so well and reaching so many goals, they have played a huge part in this.”

J R

“The staff have been fantastic… They are so patient and conscientious - and we've been so impressed by the level of thought and organisation that goes into the activities each week with the children. The nursery is a great space - the set up, ethos and friendliness really resonated with us when we viewed it both times. We especially love the focus on outdoor time, singing, playing and arts and crafts.”
