Why families choose Kindred Little Learners

Kindred Little Learners Nursery and Pre-School is a warm, traditional setting nestled within the peaceful surroundings of Havelock Recreation Ground.

Our experienced and long-standing team provides consistent and nurturing care, building strong bonds with every child and family. We use basic signing throughout our nursery to support communication and help all our children feel included.

We take great pride in our traditional values, placing a strong emphasis on kindness and politeness. Children learn to say "please" and "thank you", take turns, and speak to staff using "Mrs", "Miss" or "Mr". This helps them develop confidence and respect for others, whilst also gently preparing them for the expectations of school life.

DAY IN THE LIFE

Day in the Life

Drop Off

Our doors open from 07:30, where you and your little one will be greeted by a member of our friendly team who will strive to ensure that the transition from home to nursery is a smooth and happy one. Wave ‘see you soon!’ to your child in the knowledge that they will be safe, well cared for and having endless amounts of fun as they settle in for the day ahead.

Breakfast

Our children start their day off correctly with a healthy range of options to choose from, such as cereals, fruit and toast for breakfast from 08:15. For weaning babies at all mealtimes, a specially curated weaning menu is prepared by our trained chef and can be mashed, chopped or pureed depending on your child's individual needs.

Morning

Fuelled with a yummy breakfast, children enjoy a range of enrichment activities, adult-led learning linked to focus topics and child-led play experiences. From loose parts exploration and sensory activities to creative arts, imaginative role play and cosy reading corners, there is truly something for every child to enjoy. Outdoor play also forms an important part of the morning, allowing children to build confidence, develop physical skills and explore through active play. A healthy snack is available in the mid-morning to keep everyone energised.

Lunch

From 11:30, we enjoy lunch, freshly prepared by our on-site chef. Mealtimes provide a wonderful opportunity to socialise with friends, develop independence and explore a variety of flavours and textures. Our seasonal menus offer plenty of choice and are carefully adapted to accommodate individual dietary requirements and preferences.

Nap Time

Following lunch, our younger children can enjoy a well-earned nap or quiet time. For our little sleepers, we create a calm and comforting atmosphere using soft lighting, soothing music and cosy bedding to support rest and relaxation. Children who are not sleeping can enjoy quiet indoor activities, stories and gentle play, helping to create a peaceful transition into the afternoon.

Afternoon

Children continue their learning journey through a balance of indoor and outdoor experiences that encourage curiosity, creativity and independence. Whether exploring open-ended resources, engaging in imaginative play or enjoying active time outdoors, every afternoon offers opportunities for discovery and development.

Snack

To keep little ones fuelled and ready for all the awe and wonder their days hold, we offer a healthy mid-afternoon snack, including fresh fruit and vegetables alongside other nutritious options. From 15:45, our children enjoy a delicious evening meal before settling into a relaxed period of child-led play, giving them time to unwind and enjoy activities of their own choosing.

Home

As the day draws to a close, children enjoy relaxed play with their friends before being collected throughout the evening. Families are kept up to date through Satchel during the day, and at collection time your child's key person will share highlights of their learning, achievements and wellbeing, along with any important information. Nursery closes at 18:00, when we wave our final goodbyes and wish everyone a safe journey home.

This is just an example day that the nursery follows, each day is subject to variation depending on activities and the needs of the children.

FAQs

FAQs

What are the designated parking and access arrangements for drop-off and pick-up at your nursery?

Our nursery features a spacious, easily accessible car park located just off the main road ensuring a smooth experience for parents and carers, even during peak drop-off and pick-up times.

What is the unique feel or ethos of your nursery team?

Our nursery is built on a foundation of traditional values, where we take immense pride in fostering kindness, respect, and politeness. We believe that a strong emphasis on good manners is essential for a child's development. Our team gently guides children to use "please" and "thank you," practice sharing and turn-taking, and address staff with "Mrs.," "Miss," or "Mr." This approach not only helps children grow into confident, respectful individuals but also provides a seamless transition by preparing them for the social and behavioral expectations of school life.

How do the settling in sessions at your nursery work?

Our settling-in process is a flexible, parent-led partnership. We invite you and your child to join us for an initial session at a time that works best for you. While we recommend a minimum of two sessions, we can arrange for additional visits if you or your child needs more time to feel comfortable. During these sessions, we'll complete essential paperwork, like funding forms, and work together on an "All About Me" booklet. This helps us gather crucial information about your child and family, from their unique personality to their daily routines. Our goal is to accommodate the individual needs of each child and family, ensuring a smooth and happy transition into nursery life.

How often do the children get to play outside at your nursery?

We aim to get the children outside as often as possible. Our secure outdoor areas are utilised daily, in all weather-conditions.
To ensure the safety and well-being of every child, our staff conduct regular risk assessments, especially during periods of extreme weather. In the summer, for example, we are mindful of sun exposure and adjust our schedule to ensure children get ample outdoor time before and after the peak sunlight hours.

What are the staff-to-child ratios at your nursery?

Our staff-to-child ratios strictly adhere to UK regulations to ensure a safe, secure, and nurturing environment.
Our regulated ratios are as follows:
Babies (Under 2 years): 1 staff member to every 3 children (1:3)
Toddlers (2-3 years): 1 staff member to every 5 children (1:5)
Preschoolers (3-4 years): 1 staff member to every 8 children (1:8)

Reviews for Kindred Little Learners

Hear what our families think on daynurseries.co.uk, the UK's most trusted nursery directory with ratings based on reviews from verified parents.

"The staff are all wonderful, and they have created a warm, caring and nurturing environment for the children. The children aren't just looked after well, but they are supported to learn and progress, and there are plenty of activities to keep them entertained- from dance, to sport, to baking, to arts and crafts. There is no greater comfort than knowing that our child is in a safe, reliable and dependable setting, that our child is being looked after just as well as if at home, and to see that our child is thriving- excited to arrive at nursery, excited to come home and babble about the day, and making huge developmental strides. And what's even better is seeing that the staff are as excited at watching our child develop and grow as we are."

"We've had a great experience with Kindred Little Learners since our 1 year old started attending a few months ago. The baby room staff are all very kind and caring and helped our son settle in happily. The range of activities and the food provided is great too - we feel he is getting more variety than at home and it is lovely to see him learn new things (like dancing!). He especially enjoys the outdoor space. We get lots of updates about his day, both in person and on an app. The office staff have also been very helpful and accommodating. Overall we are really happy we chose Kindred and we feel reassured our son is getting excellent care there."

"On our initial viewing the thing that stood out was how clean the nursery was. His settling period was seamless with appropriately timed sessions for his stage. All of the staff in curiosity crescent are incredibly attentive and nurturing and can be seen comforting the children regularly at drop offs and pick ups. Management are very present, involved and approachable. Our son has multiple food allergies and the team have been incredibly reassuring and have a robust process for managing this. Unlike some of my friends nurseries, Kindred are very pragmatic yet appropriate with their sickness policy. The team provide a variety of sensory and interactive activities and they are in the garden every day (as the weather allows!)"
