Why families choose Kindred Royston Newmarket Road

At Kindred Royston Newmarket Road Pre-school, we believe in the power of outdoor play – in all weathers! Our wonderful outdoor space includes a sensory mud kitchen, calming sensory garden, large sandpit and plenty of loose parts for imaginative play!

We’re proud to offer Forest School as one of our enrichment activities. Held on a nearby school site, it offers endless opportunities for woodland exploration and learning from constructing log dens to safely making fires - all under close supervision from our fully trained practitioners.

We're passionate about connecting nursery and home life. Our specially designed cooking boxes, created by our talented chef, give families the chance to cook together and extend learning beyond the nursery. We also have Chester Bear, our beloved nursery teddy, who goes home with one of our children each weekend for a new and exciting adventure.

A little about me...

I’m a big believer in messy play and the value it brings to children’s learning, so much so that I once turned my living room into a giant sandpit for my own children to enjoy!

What is one of the most important things you should know about us? That’s easy: our fabulous teams! Pure and simple.
Dedicated to being the best that a family could ask for, our team are constantly developing themselves through our training program run by childcare and EYFS experts.
It is not just our little ones who are the passionate lifelong learners here at Kindred! It’s all a testament to their love of what they do, and what makes Kindred the incredible, loving place that it is.

DAY IN THE LIFE

Day in the Life

Drop Off

Our doors open from 07:30, where you and your little one will be greeted by a member of our friendly team who will strive to ensure that the transition from home to nursery is a smooth and happy one. Wave ‘see you soon!’ to your child in the knowledge that they will be safe, well cared for and having endless amounts of fun as they settle in for the day ahead.

Breakfast

Our children start their day off correctly with a healthy range of options to choose from, such as cereals, fruit and toast for breakfast.

Morning

We come together for circle time before beginning a morning filled with exciting opportunities for learning and discovery. Fuelled with a yummy breakfast, children enjoy a range of enrichment activities, adult-led learning linked to focus topics and child-led play experiences. From loose parts exploration and sensory activities to creative arts, imaginative role play and cosy reading corners, there is truly something for every child to enjoy. Outdoor play also forms an important part of the morning, allowing children to build confidence, develop physical skills and explore through active play. A healthy snack is available from 11:30 to keep everyone energised throughout their busy morning.

Lunch

From 11:30, we enjoy lunch, freshly prepared by our on-site chefs. Mealtimes provide a wonderful opportunity to socialise with friends, develop independence and explore a variety of flavours and textures. Our seasonal menus offer plenty of choice and are carefully adapted to accommodate individual dietary requirements and preferences.

Nap Time

Following lunch, our younger children can enjoy a well-earned nap or quiet time. We create a calm and comforting atmosphere using soft lighting, soothing music and cosy bedding to support rest and relaxation. Children who are not sleeping can enjoy quiet indoor activities, stories and gentle play, helping to create a peaceful transition into the afternoon.

Afternoon

Children continue their learning journey through a balance of indoor and outdoor experiences that encourage curiosity, creativity and independence. Whether exploring open-ended resources, engaging in imaginative play or enjoying active time outdoors, every afternoon offers opportunities for discovery and development.

Snack

To keep little ones fuelled and ready for all the awe and wonder their days hold, we offer a healthy mid-afternoon snack, including fresh fruit and vegetables alongside other nutritious options. From 15:30, our children enjoy a delicious evening meal before settling into a relaxed period of child-led play, giving them time to unwind and enjoy activities of their own choosing.

Home

As the day draws to a close, children enjoy relaxed play with their friends before being collected throughout the evening. Families are kept up to date through Satchel during the day, and at collection time your child's key person will share highlights of their learning, achievements and wellbeing, along with any important information. Pre-school closes at 18:00, when we wave our final goodbyes and wish everyone a safe journey home.

This is just an example day that the nursery follows, each day is subject to variation depending on activities and the needs of the children.

FAQs

FAQs

What is the unique feel or ethos of your nursery team?

At Kindred Royston Newmarket Road we’re a big family! All our staff including our cooks, know every child well and take an active interest in their development and wellbeing. We also value working closely with our families and extending learning beyond the nursery through initiatives, such as Cook Like Eira that encourage our families to cook a yummy and nutritious meal together.

How often do the children play outside at the nursery?

Our children have free-flow access to our garden all day, every day and are encouraged to explore and learn outdoors in all weathers. Our outdoor space plays a central role in our nursery life, providing opportunities for children to dig in the sandpit, create in the mud kitchen, build with loose parts, grow and care for plants, and take part in Forest School-inspired activities.

How does your nursery engage parents and build strong community?

We keep parents involved in their child's learning by regularly sharing photographs, observations, and celebrating their achievements, both in and outside of nursery. Our dedicated achievement board by the front door helps families share in these proud moments and celebrates each child's individuality.
We also encourage family involvement through initiatives such as our book swap, welly swap, and Cook Like Eira, where children and families can enjoy cooking activities together at home.

How does your nursery prepare my child for the transition to school?

We work closely with local schools to help ensure children feel confident and ready for their next step. We invite local school teachers into the nursery to meet the children in a familiar environment, helping to build confidence and ease the transition process.
Within the nursery we build the skills children need for school through everyday experiences that encourage independence such as making choices, asking for help, pouring their own drinks, and taking responsibility for simple tasks.

Reviews for Kindred Royston Newmarket Road

"All the staff are really lovely, friendly and informative. There is plenty of opportunity to spend time outdoors during the day and sometimes to attend the Forest school. The team always set up amazing activities…which help build on a range of different skills as well as being lots of fun for the kids. Our son has grown so much in confidence, independence and knowledge since he started. He also loves the pre-school chef and eating (often second helpings!) all the food!"

“My daughter has been attending Kindred Royston for a few months now. I am beyond impressed and happy with our experience so far. All the lovely staff have made her feel so welcome and she absolutely loves going to preschool. The range of activities they do with the children is amazing and flexibility they provide is wonderful. I am one of the emotional mum's and all the lovely ladies have made the transition of her starting preschool so assuring.”

Scarlett S

“The management / staff and care of the children is fantastic. I feel reassured in the knowledge my little one is safe AND having a great day. Drop offs are made fun and easy (no tears), the staff are just a fantastic team and it shows they are happy and this projects on to the children. The activities are always different, engaging and fun and the regular updates keep me well informed.”
