Why families choose Kindred Hemel Hempstead

Kindred Hemel Hempstead Nursery and Pre-School is a nature-rich nursery where our children have plenty of space to explore and thrive. Our large outdoor garden includes a vegetable patch where the children grow their own produce. We also have a dedicated baby garden, where they can enjoy the outdoors in a calm and secure environment.

Just a short walk from Boxmoor Trust owned land, our children enjoy regular outings to visit the local animals and experience moments they'll never forget, like watching the sheep being sheared. We're also lucky to have access to a beautiful apple orchard, where our little ones pick their own fresh fruit.

We believe in cultivating strong relationships with our parents and love welcoming them into our setting to share music, stories, and inspiring moments with the children.

A little about me...

My favourite season is autumn because there are so many exciting seasonal events for children to enjoy, from exploring nature and changing colours to taking part in creative autumn-themed activities.

What is one of the most important things you should know about us? That’s easy: our fabulous teams! Pure and simple.
Dedicated to being the best that a family could ask for, our team are constantly developing themselves through our training program run by childcare and EYFS experts.
It is not just our little ones who are the passionate lifelong learners here at Kindred! It’s all a testament to their love of what they do, and what makes Kindred the incredible, loving place that it is.

DAY IN THE LIFE

Day in the Life

Drop Off

Our doors open from 08:00, where you and your little one will be greeted by a member of our friendly team who will strive to ensure that the transition from home to nursery is a smooth and happy one. Wave ‘see you soon!’ to your child in the knowledge that they will be safe, well cared for and having endless amounts of fun as they settle in for the day ahead.

Breakfast

Our children start their day off correctly with a healthy range of options to choose from, such as cereals, fruit and toast for breakfast from 08:00. For weaning babies at all mealtimes, a specially curated weaning menu is prepared by our trained chef and can be mashed, chopped or pureed depending on your child's individual needs.

Morning

Our morning is filled with lots of exciting opportunities for learning and discovery. Fuelled with a yummy breakfast, children enjoy a range of enrichment activities, adult-led learning linked to focus topics and child-led play experiences. From loose parts exploration and sensory activities to creative arts, imaginative role play and cosy reading corners, there is truly something for every child to enjoy. Outdoor play also forms an important part of the morning, allowing children to build confidence, develop physical skills and explore through active play. A healthy snack is available from 09:30 to keep everyone energised throughout their busy morning.

Lunch

From 11:30, we enjoy lunch, freshly prepared by our on-site chef. Mealtimes provide a wonderful opportunity to socialise with friends, develop independence and explore a variety of flavours and textures. Our seasonal menus offer plenty of choice and are carefully adapted to accommodate individual dietary requirements and preferences.

Nap Time

Following lunch, our younger children can enjoy a well-earned nap or quiet time. For our little sleepers, we create a calm and comforting atmosphere using soft lighting, soothing music and cosy bedding to support rest and relaxation. Children who are not sleeping can enjoy quiet indoor activities, stories and gentle play, helping to create a peaceful transition into the afternoon.

Afternoon

Children continue their learning journey through a balance of indoor and outdoor experiences that encourage curiosity, creativity and independence. Whether exploring open-ended resources, engaging in imaginative play or enjoying active time outdoors, every afternoon offers opportunities for discovery and development.

Snack

To keep little ones fuelled and ready for all the awe and wonder their days hold, we offer a healthy mid-afternoon snack, including fresh fruit and vegetables alongside other nutritious options. In the evening we enjoy a delicious meal before settling into a relaxed period of child-led play, giving them time to unwind and enjoy activities of their own choosing.

Home

As the day draws to a close, children enjoy relaxed play with their friends before being collected throughout the evening. Families are kept up to date through Satchel during the day, and at collection time your child's key person will share highlights of their learning, achievements and wellbeing, along with any important information. Nursery closes at 18:00, when we wave our final goodbyes and wish everyone a safe journey home.

This is just an example day that the nursery follows, each day is subject to variation depending on activities and the needs of the children.

FAQs

FAQs

What are the designated parking and access arrangements for drop-off and pick-up at your nursery?

We offer easy and convenient access with a large, private car park that features plenty of spaces for our parents. This dedicated parking ensures a safe and smooth experience during both peak drop-off and pick-up times.

What is the unique feel or ethos of your nursery team?

Our nursery is defined by a strong family feel, which is often highlighted by our parents. Our team benefits from the stability of longstanding staff, which provides consistency, balanced with newer staff who bring fresh ideas. A key pillar of our philosophy is a big emphasis on sustainability and recycling, integrating eco-conscious practices into our daily learning and activities.

How does your nursery prepare my child for the transition to school?

We maintain strong and active links with the several close local schools to ensure a confident transition. We invite teachers from local schools to come into our nursery and meet the children in a comfortable environment. Schools also share useful resources with us, such as uniforms for children to try on and pictures of the school environment, helping to familiarise the children with their next setting.

How do settling in sessions at your nursery work?

We typically offer 3 settling in sessions to help transition your child into nursery life:
Session 1 (1 hour): You stay with your child, meet their key person and fill out the 'All About Me' booklet.
Session 2 (1 hour): You will drop your child off for the session allowing them to practice a short period of separation.
Session 3 (2 hours): Your child will stay for a longer session, typically covering the lunch period, to experience a full part of the nursery routine.
If needed, we can offer more sessions to ensure your child feels fully settled before they start.

What are the staff-to-child ratios at your nursery?

Our staff-to-child ratios strictly adhere to UK regulations to ensure a safe, secure, and nurturing environment.
Our regulated ratios are as follows:
Babies (Under 2 years): 1 staff member to every 3 children (1:3)
Toddlers (2-3 years): 1 staff member to every 5 children (1:5)
Preschoolers (3-4 years): 1 staff member to every 8 children (1:8)

Reviews for Kindred Hemel Hempstead

Hear what our families think on daynurseries.co.uk, the UK's most trusted nursery directory with ratings based on reviews from verified parents.

"From my son's very first day, the staff and management have been absolutely fantastic. Everyone is so compassionate and considerate, and genuinely cares about the little ones… It's wonderful to watch him thrive, and I feel that Kindred is not just occupying him for the day, but really helping him learn and develop too. The food is brilliant, especially when it comes to allergies… and he'll try new and interesting things that he wouldn't dream of eating at home."

Amy B

“Kindred isn't just a nursery - it's one big, loving family. The love, joy, and genuine care that fill those rooms are beyond anything I could have hoped for. It's a place where children take their first steps into the world with freedom, support, and so much happiness. If you're reading this and looking for somewhere special for your child - I would 100,000% recommend Kindred. They've given us memories I will always be grateful for.”

Sian S

"Kindred has been an amazing nursery for our daughter. She is thriving there, all the staff are so wonderful and all contributing to her development. To see how far she has come is amazing. She comes away telling us about her day, new stories or songs. They do so many activities and keep them busy all day... Kindred really was the best decision for us, we are so happy we found you. Our daughter loves her nursery days, and her nursery family."
