Inspiring spaces...

Why families choose Kindred Cheshunt

At Kindred Cheshunt Nursery and Pre-School, our children benefit from a large outdoor area where our children can explore, play and learn through hands-on experiences every day.

Our children can enjoy our sensory room, a spacious gardening area and outdoor spaces designed for different age groups. Whether they are digging, planting flowers, searching for mini beasts or taking part in outdoor activities with friends, our children are encouraged to develop a love of the natural world.

We are passionate about creating learning opportunities beyond our nursery. Our lending library allows families to borrow books to enjoy together at home, while our welcoming reading area gives families the opportunity to share stories with their children before or after their nursery sessions.

A little about me...

My favourite children’s book is Stick Man because I love his adventurous journey and the heartwarming ending when he is reunited with his family.

What is one of the most important things you should know about us? That’s easy: our fabulous teams! Pure and simple.
Dedicated to being the best that a family could ask for, our team are constantly developing themselves through our training program run by childcare and EYFS experts.
It is not just our little ones who are the passionate lifelong learners here at Kindred! It’s all a testament to their love of what they do, and what makes Kindred the incredible, loving place that it is.

DAY IN THE LIFE

Day in the Life

Drop Off

Our doors open from 07:30, where you and your little one will be greeted by a member of our friendly team who will strive to ensure that the transition from home to nursery is a smooth and happy one. Wave ‘see you soon!’ to your child in the knowledge that they will be safe, well cared for and having endless amounts of fun as they settle in for the day ahead.

Breakfast

Our children start their day off correctly with a healthy range of options to choose from, such as cereals, fruit and toast for breakfast from 08:00. For weaning babies at all mealtimes, a specially curated weaning menu is prepared by our trained chef and can be mashed, chopped or pureed depending on your child's individual needs.

Morning

We come together for Circle Time before beginning a morning filled with exciting opportunities for learning and discovery. Fuelled with a yummy breakfast, children enjoy a range of enrichment activities, adult-led learning linked to focus topics and child-led play experiences. From loose parts exploration and sensory activities to creative arts, imaginative role play and cosy reading corners, there is truly something for every child to enjoy. Outdoor play also forms an important part of the morning, allowing children to build confidence, develop physical skills and explore through active play. A healthy snack is available from 10:00 to keep everyone energised throughout their busy morning.

Lunch

From 11:30, we enjoy lunch, freshly prepared by our on-site chef. Mealtimes provide a wonderful opportunity to socialise with friends, develop independence and explore a variety of flavours and textures. Our seasonal menus offer plenty of choice and are carefully adapted to accommodate individual dietary requirements and preferences.

Nap Time

Following lunch, our younger children can enjoy a well-earned nap or quiet time. For our little sleepers, we create a calm and comforting atmosphere using soft lighting, soothing music and cosy bedding to support rest and relaxation. Children who are not sleeping can enjoy quiet indoor activities, stories and gentle play, helping to create a peaceful transition into the afternoon.

Afternoon

Children continue their learning journey through a balance of indoor and outdoor experiences that encourage curiosity, creativity and independence. Whether exploring open-ended resources, engaging in imaginative play or enjoying active time outdoors, every afternoon offers opportunities for discovery and development.

Snack

To keep little ones fuelled and ready for all the awe and wonder their days hold, we offer a healthy mid-afternoon snack, including fresh fruit and vegetables alongside other nutritious options. From 15:30, our children enjoy a delicious evening meal before settling into a relaxed period of child-led play, giving them time to unwind and enjoy activities of their own choosing.

Home

As the day draws to a close, children enjoy relaxed play with their friends before being collected throughout the evening. Families are kept up to date through Satchel during the day, and at collection time your child's key person will share highlights of their learning, achievements and wellbeing, along with any important information. Nursery closes at 18:30, when we wave our final goodbyes and wish everyone a safe journey home.

This is just an example day that the nursery follows, each day is subject to variation depending on activities and the needs of the children.

FAQs

FAQs

How does your nursery engage with families and build a strong community?

We regularly send home activities linked to children's learning helping families continue conversations, creativity and exploration beyond the nursery day. Throughout the year, families are invited to take part in a range of special events and celebrations, including graduation, summer fairs and seasonal celebrations, Children often create keepsakes, take-home projects and themed activities linked to events taking place within the nursery, giving families the opportunity to be part of their child's learning journey. Alongside these experiences, our team maintains regular communication with families, sharing updates, celebrating achievements and working together to support each child's development.

How do the settling-in sessions at your nursery work?

We understand that every child settles differently, so our settling-in process is flexible and tailored to each child's individual needs. During the week before your child's start date, our team works closely with parents and carers to agree the most appropriate settling-in plan and ensure children feel happy, secure and confident as they begin their nursery journey
Children under 2 are typically offered five settling-in sessions over the course of a week, ranging from one hour to two-and-a-half hours.
Children aged two and over are usually offered four settling-in sessions across the week, with visits gradually increasing in length as children become more familiar with the nursery environment.

How often do the children play outside at your nursery?

Outdoor play is an important part of everyday life at Kindred Cheshunt. Children are outside as much as possible. Children have access to our large age-specific outdoor environments throughout the day and are encouraged to enjoy free-flow access. We believe children learn best through hands-on experiences, so we provide opportunities for outdoor exploration, physical activity and learning in all weather conditions.

What are the staff-to-child ratios at your nursery?

Our staff-to-child ratios strictly adhere to UK regulations to ensure a safe, secure, and nurturing environment.
Our regulated ratios are as follows:
Babies (Under 2 years): 1 staff member to every 3 children (1:3)
Toddlers (2-3 years): 1 staff member to every 5 children (1:5)
Preschoolers (3-4 years): 1 staff member to every 8 children (1:8)

What are the designated parking and access arrangements for drop-off and pick-up at your nursery?

We aim to make drop-off and pick-up as easy as possible for families. The nursery benefits from ample on-site parking, and families can use the secure entry system to contact either the office or their child's room directly on arrival. This helps create a smooth handover at the start and end of each day while maintaining a safe and welcoming environment.
