Why families choose Kindred Waltham Abbey

Kindred Waltham Abbey Nursery and Pre-School is situated in a beautiful spot surrounded by greenery, offering a peaceful setting for our children. Our longstanding team of staff are deeply connected to the local area, which means we can easily share information and point you towards great places and events in the local community.
We encourage extensive outdoor exploration in our large gardens, which feature dedicated spaces for each room. Our children especially love our big outdoor mud kitchen for imaginative sensory play and our wonderful woodland area, where we often hunt for bugs and enjoy stories.
Beyond our outdoor areas, we offer a variety of fun and educational enrichment activities to engage every child; from exercising those gross motor skills with Mini Olympics, practicing mindfulness with yoga and even preparing for school with RobotReg phonics.

A little about me...

My favourite children's book is The Tiger Who Came to Tea.

What is one of the most important things you should know about us? That’s easy: our fabulous teams! Pure and simple.
Dedicated to being the best that a family could ask for, our team are constantly developing themselves through our training program run by childcare and EYFS experts.
It is not just our little ones who are the passionate lifelong learners here at Kindred! It’s all a testament to their love of what they do, and what makes Kindred the incredible, loving place that it is.

DAY IN THE LIFE

Day in the Life

Drop Off

Our doors open from 08:00, where you and your little one will be greeted by a member of our friendly team who will strive to ensure that the transition from home to nursery is a smooth and happy one. Wave ‘see you soon!’ to your child in the knowledge that they will be safe, well cared for and having endless amounts of fun as they settle in for the day ahead.

Breakfast

Our children start their day off correctly with a healthy range of options to choose from, such as cereals, fruit and toast for breakfast from 08:00. For weaning babies at all mealtimes, a specially curated weaning menu is prepared by our trained chef and can be mashed, chopped or pureed depending on your child's individual needs.

Morning

Fuelled with a yummy breakfast, children enjoy a range of enrichment activities, adult-led learning linked to focus topics and child-led play experiences. From loose parts exploration and sensory activities to creative arts, imaginative role play and cosy reading corners, there is truly something for every child to enjoy. Outdoor play also forms an important part of the morning, allowing children to build confidence, develop physical skills and explore through active play. A healthy snack is available from 10:00 to keep everyone energised throughout their busy morning.

Lunch

From 11:30, we enjoy lunch, freshly prepared by our on-site chef. Mealtimes provide a wonderful opportunity to socialise with friends, develop independence and explore a variety of flavours and textures. Our seasonal menus offer plenty of choice and are carefully adapted to accommodate individual dietary requirements and preferences.

Nap Time

Following lunch, our younger children can enjoy a well-earned nap or quiet time. For our little sleepers, we create a calm and comforting atmosphere using soft lighting, soothing music and cosy bedding to support rest and relaxation. Children who are not sleeping can enjoy quiet indoor activities, stories and gentle play, helping to create a peaceful transition into the afternoon.

Afternoon

Our children continue their learning journey through a balance of indoor and outdoor experiences that encourage curiosity, creativity and independence. Whether exploring open-ended resources, engaging in imaginative play or enjoying active time outdoors, every afternoon offers opportunities for discovery and development.

Snack

To keep little ones fuelled and ready for all the awe and wonder their days hold, we offer a healthy mid-afternoon snack, including fresh fruit and vegetables alongside other nutritious options. From 17:00, our children enjoy a delicious evening meal before settling into a relaxed period of child-led play, giving them time to unwind and enjoy activities of their own choosing.

Home

As the day draws to a close, children enjoy relaxed play with their friends before being collected throughout the evening. Families are kept up to date through Satchel during the day, and at collection time your child's key person will share highlights of their learning, achievements and wellbeing, along with any important information. Nursery closes at 18:00, when we wave our final goodbyes and wish everyone a safe journey home.

This is just an example day that the nursery follows, each day is subject to variation depending on activities and the needs of the children.

FAQs

FAQs

How do the settling in sessions at your nursery work?

Our settling in process typically includes three key sessions. During the first session you will stay with your child to meet their key person and fill out the 'All About Me' booklet. During the further two sessions you will drop your child so they can begin to become comfortable in the environment independently.
If your child requires additional time to feel secure, we are completely flexible and happy to offer more sessions to ensure a smooth transition.

What are the staff-to-child ratios at your nursery?

Our staff-to-child ratios strictly adhere to UK regulations to ensure a safe, secure, and nurturing environment.
Our regulated ratios are as follows:
Babies (Under 2 years): 1 staff member to every 3 children (1:3)
Toddlers (2-3 years): 1 staff member to every 5 children (1:5)
Preschoolers (3-4 years): 1 staff member to every 8 children (1:8)

How often do the children get to play outside at your nursery?

At Kindred Waltham Abbey, we always say there is no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothes! We get the children outside for exploration and play in our spacious garden every single day and in all weather conditions!

What are the designated parking and access arrangements for drop-off and pick-up at your nursery?

We offer easy and convenient access with a large, private car park exclusively for our families ensuring a smooth experience during drop-off and pick-up times.

ENRICHMENT

Enrichment

We believe that providing children with rich and varied learning opportunities from an early age supports their overall development and helps them to thrive. Each week, children will enjoy a thoughtfully planned programme of enrichment activities designed to enhance their nursery experience, spark curiosity, nurture a love of learning and create memorable moments. These additional experiences encourage creativity, support holistic development and provide wonderful learning opportunities that broaden children’s experiences and help them discover more about the world around them.

Reviews for Kindred Waltham Abbey

Hear what our families think on daynurseries.co.uk, the UK's most trusted nursery directory with ratings based on reviews from verified parents.

“[My daughter] can't wait to go in and see the staff and play with them. She enjoys the food and there is alot of it throughout the day. The children do a range of structured activities as well as have time to play freely. My daughter loves stories and songs and often she will come home singing songs or retelling stories she has read at nursery. The app is useful to keep parents updated throughout the day with her nap times, food updates and nappy changes.”

“Absolutely amazing nursery! The staff are so lovely, kind, and genuinely caring. My child absolutely loves going in every day, which says everything. The environment is warm, welcoming, and supportive, and it's clear how much effort they put into each child's happiness and development. I honestly couldn't fault them in any way. Such an incredible team - we're so grateful for everything they do.”

Kristie F

“The environment is bright, clean, and thoughtfully designed, with engaging play areas that spark creativity and curiosity. Every day she comes home excited to tell us about the activities she's enjoyed-whether it's arts and crafts, singing songs, story time, or outdoor play. The balance between structured learning and free play is perfect for her age, helping her build confidence while having so much fun. We've seen such positive growth in her communication skills, independence, and social confidence since she started.”
