Inspiring spaces...

Why families choose Kindred Girton

At Kindred Girton Nursery and Pre-School, we are proud to offer large outdoor spaces, with each room having its own dedicated garden. Our older children benefit from free flow access to their garden all day which includes lots of wooden climbing apparatus perfect for helping hone their coordination and essential motor skills.

We are passionate about developing strong relationships that connect nursery and home life. We encourage this bond through Sullivan the Sloth and Penelope the Penguin our beloved teddies who go home with our children for weekend adventures. To help busy parents, we also offer a handy breakfast-on-the-go basket to make those morning drops run smoothly.

Our location offers excellent convenience for local families. We are situated just a 14-minute drive from the Cambridge Science Park, making us a great choice for commuting parents from Girton and other surrounding Cambridgeshire villages.

A little about me...

What is one of the most important things you should know about us? That’s easy: our fabulous teams! Pure and simple.
Dedicated to being the best that a family could ask for, our team are constantly developing themselves through our training program run by childcare and EYFS experts.
It is not just our little ones who are the passionate lifelong learners here at Kindred! It’s all a testament to their love of what they do, and what makes Kindred the incredible, loving place that it is.

DAY IN THE LIFE

Day in the Life

Drop Off

Our doors open from 07:30, where you and your little one will be greeted by a member of our friendly team who will strive to ensure that the transition from home to nursery is a smooth and happy one. Wave ‘see you soon!’ to your child in the knowledge that they will be safe, well cared for and having endless amounts of fun as they settle in for the day ahead.

Breakfast

Our children start their day off correctly with a healthy range of options to choose from, such as cereals, fruit and toast for breakfast from 07:00. For weaning babies at all mealtimes, a specially curated weaning menu is prepared by our trained chef and can be mashed, chopped or pureed depending on your child's individual needs.

Morning

Fuelled with a yummy breakfast, children enjoy a range of enrichment activities, adult-led learning linked to focus topics and child-led play experiences. From loose parts exploration and sensory activities to creative arts, imaginative role play and cosy reading corners, there is truly something for every child to enjoy. Outdoor play also forms an important part of the morning, allowing children to build confidence, develop physical skills and explore through active play. A healthy snack is available from 10:00 to keep everyone energised throughout their busy morning.

Lunch

From 11:30, we enjoy lunch, freshly prepared by our on-site chef. Mealtimes provide a wonderful opportunity to socialise with friends, develop independence and explore a variety of flavours and textures. Our seasonal menus offer plenty of choice and are carefully adapted to accommodate individual dietary requirements and preferences.

Nap Time

Following lunch, our younger children can enjoy a well-earned nap or quiet time. For our little sleepers, we create a calm and comforting atmosphere using soft lighting, soothing music and cosy bedding to support rest and relaxation. Children who are not sleeping can enjoy quiet indoor activities, stories and gentle play, helping to create a peaceful transition into the afternoon.

Afternoon

Children continue their learning journey through a balance of indoor and outdoor experiences that encourage curiosity, creativity and independence. Whether exploring open-ended resources, engaging in imaginative play or enjoying active time outdoors, every afternoon offers opportunities for discovery and development.

Snack

To keep little ones fuelled and ready for all the awe and wonder their days hold, we offer a healthy mid-afternoon snack, including fresh fruit and vegetables alongside other nutritious options. From 15:45, our children enjoy a delicious evening meal before settling into a relaxed period of child-led play, giving them time to unwind and enjoy activities of their own choosing.

Home

As the day draws to a close, children enjoy relaxed play with their friends before being collected throughout the evening. Families are kept up to date through Satchel during the day, and at collection time your child's key person will share highlights of their learning, achievements and wellbeing, along with any important information. Nursery closes at 18:00, when we wave our final goodbyes and wish everyone a safe journey home.

This is just an example day that the nursery follows, each day is subject to variation depending on activities and the needs of the children.

FAQs

FAQs

Does your nursery take the children out for trips in the local community?

We love taking our children out on trips around Girton to build their connection with the world around them. Our regular community activities include visits to a local care home fostering intergenerational relationships, nature walks to explore local wildlife and environments and walks to local parks for physical activity and fun.

What are the designated parking and access arrangements for drop-off and pick-up at your nursery?

We offer easy and convenient access with a large, private car park for our families, ensuring a safe and smooth experience during both drop-off and pick-up times.

What is the unique feel or ethos of your nursery team?

Our nursery has a strong home from home feel, built upon a foundation of longstanding staff who are deeply committed to their roles. Our team is highly valued for its diverse backgrounds, skillsets, and cultures, which they actively share to enrich the children's learning.

How does your nursery prepare my child for the transition to school?

We maintain key connections with local primary schools to support a confident transition. Our preparation includes teachers from local schools coming into our nursery to meet the children in a familiar setting. We also share school open day event posters and information to keep parents fully informed about the application and transition process.

How do the settling in sessions work at your nursery?

We offer a structured three-session settling in process designed for a gentle transition.
For the initial session, you stay with your child to meet their key person and complete the 'All About Me' booklet and any other necessary paperwork.
This is followed by a session where you drop your child so they can begin to build confidence independently.
For the final session, your child stays for an extended session, experiencing a substantial portion of the nursery routine.
We are very flexible and can easily adjust and customise the sessions to meet the unique needs of every child and family.

“The entire team at Girton have been fantastic... they provide a safe and fun environment for the children to learn and grow, helping them not just physically but emotionally. We have been amazed at just how friendly and passionate the entire team is... They almost feel like part of our family and their kind, gentle and enthusiastic nurturing of our children is so appreciated and valued.”

Will J

“I love that he can go outside so much and learn through playing with changing activities every day. The staff have shown they are as excited as I am when he manages to have playful interactions with his friends, and that has been wonderful to see. It feels like they really care for him and his development and want to see him thrive.”

Sarah C

"The team is caring, friendly, and always makes the children feel safe and happy. It's clear that they enjoy a wide range of engaging activities and learning opportunities every day. In fact, they often don't want to leave when we arrive for pick-up, which says everything about how much they enjoy being there. We're very grateful for the support, care, and dedication shown by all the staff."
